After the Polio vaccine, the oral vaccine became one of children's regular immunizations. People became less fearful and began interacting with each other. Most young people today don't know much about polio because their parents were born after the vaccine had become common.
Decades after having survived polio, some victims found that they developed "Post-Polio Syndrome." Post-Polio Syndrome is where the victims relapsed and developed paralysis and muscle weakness long after they thought that they had beaten the disease.
The March of Dimes, which is now known as an organization which raises money and fights birth defects, was started by Franklin D. Roosevelt for polio research.
